AKUMAL swimming with the turtles
In the "307" about 16.7 KM southbound / direction Tulum
target coordinates
20.395366, -87.312264

You drive on our access road to the highway and here you must first of all to the north - towards Cancun - turn. On the first * * Retorno your changes then the direction and crossing now to the south, towards the TULUM. The departure AKUMAL signposted; you can not miss it.

ALTERNATIVE a boat tour directly from our beach to Akumal. The boat costs per hour US $ 60.00. You will need about 5 hours, it is then but already another snorkel - stop in a Cenotemündung. If the fun with 6 people you share, then that's affordable.

AKUMAL is in the Mayan language * City * turtle. Here is an example for swimming and snorkeling with big turtles. For us, this is a somewhat double-edged sword. Because turtles should not interfere in principle - are so please considerate.
In this (beautiful) cove every year the Carey turtles from May to September come to lay their eggs. And some of them will then remain as simple. you could years ago still readily into swimming in the area. The one has something to offer a stop in the meantime - but it is still an insane experience. So swimming and snorkeling stuff not forget.
But unfortunately we hear more often that Akumal is totally overcrowded, with all the undesirable consequences. Alternative is a boat tour right here from our beach.

PIZZERIA

You drive on our access road to the highway and here you must first of all to the north - towards Cancun - turn. On the first * * Retorno your changes then the direction and crossing now to the south, towards the TULUM. The departure CHEMUIL signposted; you can not miss it. Take the SECOND access into town, ride to the crossroads and turn here to the right. After about 20 meters, the Pizzeria on the right side

Actually we do not give recommendations for restaurants from etc. Here let's set one of the 3 exceptions. The selection of pizzas is one of the best we have ever found worldwide. In addition, there are numerous alternatives for those who do not have it with pizzas spotty. In high season the Friday night is to drive almost a must in order to PIZZA LEO. The portions are more than ample. We order z. B. PIZZA LEO EXTRA and get a pizza from the 2 people are properly fed and in addition we take from this order enough with the place to still have a full meal the next day.
Price for this 160 MXN

Old stones in TULUM.
In the "307" about 40 KM / 30 minute drive to the south / direction Tulum
target coordinates
20.215017, -87.431006

You drive on our access road to the highway and here you must first of all to the north - towards Cancun - turn. On the first * * Retorno your changes then the direction and crossing now to the south, towards the TULUM. After the entrance of Tulum exit to Tulum National Park is signposted; you can not miss it. The park is located to the left of the road. Drive ahead to the parking lot. From there you can see already the high mast from the top of the Artists abseil slowly upside down. This is also the starting point of a small ropeway to the ticket office for the park. Taste a trifle, but definitely better than running in the blazing sun

Should you love Mayan ruins, you definitely can find more interesting places. BUT the scenery here in the National Park IS AN AMAZING !!! So definitely a camera / camera remember and ensure that the batteries are charged and yet there is enough space!
Here's a tip, no two tips.
Once you have purchased your tickets, you lead the way forward ultimately by a Riesenerdwall. Just behind there signs. One would like to guide you to the right (clockwise in pm). Do not do it - you will guided through the whole park and not worth it in our opinion. Here goes to the left towards the sea and then have your photo opportunities still and still.
Here Tip Two - take with swimsuit! Not necessarily a recommendation for ruin tours, but you will see!

COBA
ruins
On the * 307 * in the South / Chetumal. To the first intersection in Tulum Here turn RIGHT towards COBA
87 KM, approx 1Std.10 Min.

You drive on our access road to the highway and here you must first of all to the north - towards Cancun - turn. On the first * * Retorno your changes then the direction and crossing now to the south, towards the TULUM / Chetumal. After the entrance of Tulum you will drive. Until the first traffic light in front and bends here right towards Coba The road is well marked - just follow the signs. In the villages, especially in Tulum and Coba, necessarily TOPES eighth!

Once you have achieved your tickets, it's right next to the ticket counter into the park. We appreciate these ruins not least because you can walk nicely in the shade here. Eventually, introduce yourself the question, WHERE IT IS NOW CONTINUE. Keep to here simply left and you come soon after the main ruins.

was built the ancient ceremonial site during the Classic Maya period (600-900 n. Chr.). [1] In the heyday of the Maya Coba was one of the largest Maya cities in Yucatan, but she was out of as yet unknown reasons, already at the arrival of leave Spaniards. The city took an area of up to 70 sq km. The main pyramid is 120 steps and 42 meters high, it is called El Castillo. You can climb up. On the top of the pyramid there is a small ritual room and an altar that was probably used by the Maya priests for blood sacrifice to the gods. From up here, you naturally have a hell of panorama!
Of course you can hire a guide, but please remember that you almost NOTHING know of the Maya and their Zivilitationen. And thus your leader maybe not !!

Sian Ka'an
national park
Nature reserve
On the * 307 * in the South / Chetumal. To the first intersection in Tulum Here Turn LEFT towards the sea, where the road forks you turn right, on the highway 51. This you follow to the entrance of the park.
ca.52 KM, about 55 min

We do not like to admit, but we have in all the years 3 times trying to explore the park make a right. And we have approximately 2 hours ride in the park with our truck, abandoned all 3 times. The road inside the park has no potholes, no it IS from potholes! So to say * paving upside *. We know a lot of campers who have also tried. The last, which it tried, were after 10 hours back with us in the square and told, among other things by a Dutch Camper, which had bogged down and they freed from the mud.
This condition makes perfect sense. The park in its uniqueness is of course offered as a tourist attraction and sold. And the pressure of the masses is increasing. But that is not compatible now times with intense conservation! And since you can then pay the people and know it already, that they will decide independently with almost certainly after at least 1 hour to turn. And so both sides are satisfied. The visitors have at least tried it and the operators have collected their money.
If you want it all to you anyway, but do not want to drive yourself, there are providers who organize jeep tours there. You'll be picked, there is ne boat tour, there is snorkeling, there is lunch, and the whole thing will cost (to our knowledge) so around 160 US $ per person. Look to the Internet, or comes to Vera & Dierck that show you where on the beach can get here information.

Sian Ka'an is a national park in Mexico. It is located on the eastern side of the Yucatan peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo. Its territory was in 1986 designated as a National Park, is since 1987 as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO World Heritage. The name Sian Ka'an comes from the Mayan language and means literally place where the sky was born.
The national park covers a total area of 5,280 square kilometers, consisting of Tropical rainforest, wetlands, coastal and marine ecosystems. The mainland part of the national park is flat and without bumps; he rises from sea level, starting at a height of up to 10 m on. [2]
The biosphere reserve is partly on the limestone plateau of the Yucatan peninsula and includes parts of the vast reef system of the Caribbean coast with a. In limestone ground there are many cave-ins (cenotes), which are filled with fresh water. Parts of the world's longest known underwater cave system Sistema Ox Bel Ha lie on the northern edge of Sian Ka'an.
Overall, up to 1999 (prior to the UNESCO report) 4,000 plant species and 28 mammal species including five species of cats, jaguar, puma, Central American and Caribbean Tapir Manati were found. In the wide variety of aquatic habitats will find different seabirds and waders. Strength in numerous lagoons, canals, bays and coral reefs lives a rich marine life.
